Plaid Bandana

I borrowed this scarf from my mom a while ago. I love the plaid pattern and colors, but it is square-shaped, so I never really knew exactly how to wear it. I recently got back from a short trip to France, where my french sister was wearing a bandana around her neck. Plaid old, classic printed bandana – with shorts, cowboy boots and a plain tee – and she was completely adorable and super trendy! So when I got back, I tried to take this french style and make it my own, and it completely worked here! I got a lot of compliments on this scarf, and it totally made this outfit… along with my new favorite booties that I scored from TJMaxx for just $35! Ankle booties are super trendy right now, and are perfect for seasonal weather like we have had lately in New England! TJ’s had a pretty good stock!

It could be the two-tone necklace, the gold chain-laced straps, or the white and gold mix that give off a Grecian vibe to this look. It was a very hot day, and the simplicity of this outfit was perfect for fighting the heat! This “braided” braid is my new favorite summer hair style. Since my hair has a lot of layers, when I do a regular braid, I always have pieces sticking out everywhere. With this style of braid, everything is very tight and there are no little ends sticking out. It is so easy to do, stays in all day and is hassle free! 3 Steps: Separate hair into 3 sections like you would to do a regular braid. Braid each section as its own braid. Then, use each braid as you would with sections, and braid them together. Good luck to all who attempt this easy breezy summer style! ūüôā

As you probably know by now, I love my bargains!! This entire outfit is pretty reasonably priced, especially when you take into account all of the layered items here! It is pretty trendy right now to layer necklaces as well as apparel. Since I normally wear statement necklaces, (it would be way overkill to layer those puppies) it was nice for a change to be able to work that jewelry trend here. H&M makes these jersey mini skirts for just $5.95 — not even on sale! They have tons of fun colors, and it is a very easy bottom to wear for summer. They are now making a jersey pencil version too,¬†Old Navy actually has a bunch for pretty cheap here¬†for more of a work-wear solution! Every other part of this outfit was not bought this year, but it’s always good when you can work in older pieces with newer styles to get more out of your wardrobe!

July 1st! I can’t believe how fast this summer is going by. This is my second look with this maxi skirt, the first one is¬†here. I really love how easy this skirt is to wear. A maxi always looks styled, even if you just pair it with a cute tank top or button up chambray (totally “in” right now over dresses and skirts!!). The vest that I suggested below from Nordstrom is adorable (I actually like it better than mine), perfect for adding a little something edgy to your look. Lighter pieces for layering are always popular, but are especially good for the summertime to add some style to your look. With a vest like that, all you have to add is a plain tank underneath, skinny jeans, heels and voila – you have an¬†easy, put together, stylish look! Get on your layers ladies!!
