MEET LAUREN CHAGNON: ’47 BRAND STYLIST

Lauren gives the peace sign

How would you define your style?

My style is kind of all over the place. If I see a style I like, I try to reinvent it by adding my own twist to the look. I have always loved knee-high boots.  I’d say my go-to look is blue/black skinny jeans, a cute blouse with a cardigan, and some snazzy boots. I love layers, so usually have on 2-3 shirts every day. I am a shopaholic. It’s kind of a problem because, living in a renovated Loft I don’t have much closet space, so I am always re-arranging my closet to make everything fit. I have a lot of clothes, but I try to get rid of items I don’t wear often. I convince myself by thinking, “if I get rid of this, I can get new clothes to fill it’s hole.” Again, it’s a problem haha.

What are you working on right now?
We just wrapped on a photo shoot out in LA. It was a blast! I was proud to be part of it and was a great learning experience. I also just finished an NFL fashion show in New York City that we put on the night before the Superbowl. Next up is our Spring 2015 catalog shoot, quickly approaching in April. We are in the early stages of planning for that now.

So these are my favorite looks from this summer! You can click on each photo if you want to see each entire look as a whole. Which look was your favorite?? I think my favorite is the black peplum top with ripped skinny jeans and fringe heels! My style going forward will be more fall themed, especially as the weather get cooler and cooler! Time for some fresh new fall styles!

Summer Pop Color take 2

I have to say that the color combination of black and white with a pop color is one of my favorite looks, (see post from here and here as well). This open front type of cardigan is called a “cocoon cardigan”. The style is very cute and trendy, but I have to give a tip to anyone wearing one. I had a hard time finding tops to wear underneath this cardi, until I realized what the problem with it actually was. I find that when I wear a looser fitting shirt underneath this type of cardigan, it tends to make me look a lot wider and heavier than I really am. Plus, with this one, it doesn’t help that it has stripes too! So with that said, if you do decide to sport this style, please make sure you are wearing something a little more fitted underneath, so it will keep you looking slim. Hope this little note will help someone rocking this style! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Mixed Print dress

The trend of mixing prints is huge right now. I have not yet been able to master the look of mixing prints with two pieces, but the style can work with a dress like this one (and it is effortless) I got this dress last year really cheap from JCPenney, and I thought it was so ugly that it was cute… I actually refer to it as my “ugly dress”! With back to school shopping just around the corner, it may be a good trend to learn towards if you think you are daring enough to pull it off!

A lot of blogs have been doing looks that consist of chic black and white looks. Inspired, I pulled together this outfit from items I already owned. The tank is from JCPenney last year, very simple and casual, but worked perfectly with this look. I scoured the interwebs to find a bunch of other cute black and white tank top options if you are interested in trying this look on your own! Check you closet first though, cause you may already own a nice top you could pair with white pants to recreate this look in your own way! Make sure to add a nice pop color into your look – it is super trendy and cute, and perfect for the warmer summer months. Sometimes you can work in a few pop colors, like I did here with the necklace and clutch. Hope everyone tried this look out, it is very chic and kind of fun! Happy hunting, and have a great weekend!

It could be the two-tone necklace, the gold chain-laced straps, or the white and gold mix that give off a Grecian vibe to this look. It was a very hot day, and the simplicity of this outfit was perfect for fighting the heat! This “braided” braid is my new favorite summer hair style. Since my hair has a lot of layers, when I do a regular braid, I always have pieces sticking out everywhere. With this style of braid, everything is very tight and there are no little ends sticking out. It is so easy to do, stays in all day and is hassle free! 3 Steps: Separate hair into 3 sections like you would to do a regular braid. Braid each section as its own braid. Then, use each braid as you would with sections, and braid them together. Good luck to all who attempt this easy breezy summer style! 🙂

Doubles as a vest!

So this was the first time I decided to unbutton this shirt and wear it as a vest… I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner, but now I may need to do a once-over of my closet and see what else I can wear this way as well! I love this top, and I get a lot of compliments every time I wear it! American Rag really has some great stuff, you can find it in the Junior’s section at Macy’s for pretty decent prices. There are a lot of really cute details in this shirt – the tie back, the cute floral print and little pleating detail shown in the close-up photo. It’s really a very simple outfit, but worked for a sticky humid day in Massachusetts! Vests, layers and overshirts are all very popular this year, so a tip – take a closer look through your closet at your button ups, tanks and tee’s, because some may be able to double as a vest! This is a great way to save money and get more wear out of the clothes you already own!

Gladiator Flats with any look!

Gladiator sandals have been pretty big for a few years now. They are great to help pep up any outfit, and they really go with anything – dresses, shorts, jeans or even leggings like I did here! The heel height of this style make them great for days with lots of walking, so I tend to wear them when I know I will be on my feet all day. The trend will not be disappearing any time soon, so if you don’t have any gladiator sandals, go find yourself a pair! They are a good investment piece that can be rolled over season after season!

Get your layer on!

July 1st! I can’t believe how fast this summer is going by. This is my second look with this maxi skirt, the first one is here. I really love how easy this skirt is to wear. A maxi always looks styled, even if you just pair it with a cute tank top or button up chambray (totally “in” right now over dresses and skirts!!). The vest that I suggested below from Nordstrom is adorable (I actually like it better than mine), perfect for adding a little something edgy to your look. Lighter pieces for layering are always popular, but are especially good for the summertime to add some style to your look. With a vest like that, all you have to add is a plain tank underneath, skinny jeans, heels and voila – you have an easy, put together, stylish look! Get on your layers ladies!!
